A Dutch Parliamentary Committee has canceled its visit to Moluccas in October of this year because of a deficit of 40.000 Euro's. A proposal of the Dutch MP and Socialist Party member Mr. Harry van Bommel to postpone the visit of the Parliamentary Committee until next year is overwelmingly rejected by the majority of the Dutch Parliament. The contemplated visit of the Dutch Parliamentary Committee to the Moluccan Islands is a necessity to throw light upon the case of the more than 90 Moluccan political prisoners in Indonesian custody. According to several Indonesian human rights activists, the life sentence and 10 – 20 years imprisonment, given to the peacefull FKM/RMS activists was excesssive, political motivated and uncalled for in an episode that did not endanger the lives of others.
In contrast to reliable reports from Maluku, as confirmed by the MAY 27, 2008 reportage of the Dutch journalist Step Vaessen of Aljazeera, the Dutch government, recordholder as a global frontfighter against human rights abuses has continuously denied the severe abuses committed by the Indonesian police and the anti terror unit Detachment 88 to the Moluccan activists. It is therefore, not taken into account their historical ties with the People of Maluku, a neglect of duty to cancel the visit to Maluku, to get first hand information of the imprisoned political prisoners. A Dutch Parliamentary budgetary deficit is just a smoke screen. And political motivated.
